There are many grandparents out there who do not know how they can connect with their grandchildren. Kids these days seem to be all about the electronics and the technology that they can hold in the palm of their hand. Most grandparents do not understand the fascination with these gadgets, yet they still want some way in which they can connect with their grandchildren on some level. The good news is that there are several activities that a person can do with their grandchildren to not only spend quality time with them, but allows them to get to know them a bit better.
Go see a movie
See a movie that you are both interested in. Though you cannot talk during the movie, afterwards you two can talk about your favorite parts of the movie and your grandchild will always remember the movie that you two saw together and loved.
Spend some time outdoors
For those who enjoy the outdoors, they can share this love with their grandchildren. There are several parks throughout each state that have a wide variety of campgrounds, day hiking trails, fishing and the like that is sure to bring about the nature lover in every person. Those who want quality time in which they can take their grandkids away from the hustle and bustle often associated with the technology of today, will find that this could be the best trip that they can take. Some possibilities might be fishing, going to the park, or having a picnic.
Go to the library
If you have younger grandchildren check to see when story hour is and take them to this. They are going to enjoy the story hour as it allows them to be with other kids, read a book and have an activity that goes along with the theme of the book that has been read. You get to spend time with the child, while also ensuring that they are learning something new and having a good time.
Shopping
If you really want to connect with your older grandchildren, consider taking them shopping. Though, it may not mean much quality time with them on your behalf, as older grandchildren tend to take off on their own when they are shopping. But, you will get the car ride to the mall with them, and you never know you may actually enjoy going with them from store to store.
Make a lunch date
Make a lunch date one a month or once a week with your grandchild. Take them to their favorite place and dedicate this time to talking about their week and what they have been up to. Listen to them and offer advice only if they ask. You are not their parent, so they may feel better about talking to you when they are having problems. This can be a great way to learn more about your grandchild and have that precious time that you do not want to miss.
Doing things with your grandkids is all about finding something that you both enjoy and want to do. When you are both enjoying what you are doing, you are going to have the desire to do it again.
