As you age, it gets harder and harder to find a doctor who not only is compatible with you, but with who you can trust. Trust is a major issue that needs that be present in any doctor patient relationship. When there is no trust, a person will not be ready to listen to what the person has to say and they simply won’t have their health issues dealt with as they should. So how does someone find a doctor that they can trust? The following are a few tips that will help you in your search.

  1. Meet many doctors

You do not know what is out there unless you look. Thus, set up consultation appointments with doctors to get to know them and see if they are a fit or not. Many doctors use these initial appointments to see if you two are a good fit, and you should do the same. Also, consider researching the doctor and asking around about him or her. Do they have good reviews? Do people seem to like them? These are important aspects to be looking for in a doctor.

  2. Ask questions

You will need to ask questions to any doctor that you visit about your health care or anything. Do you feel comfortable in doing this? Or do you feel that your doctor does not listen to you? When you trust your doctor you should feel free to ask anything that comes to mind or talk with him or her about your issues. If you do not, then this is a sign that you are not trusting your doctor as much as you should.

  3. Is the doctor reachable?

This is one of the biggest things to look for. When you call the doctor with a problem do they simply listen and tell you to come in to the office within a week? Or do they make arrangements to get you in because you are sick instead of waiting? Most people want a doctor who knows that when they call and feel bad, that the doctor will fit them in no matter what.

  4. Does your doctor know you?

When you go into the doctor do they know you? Or do you feel as though they have to look at their files and not really have any idea as to what your history is? Having that intimate knowledge of your health is something that is going to start the trust in any doctor patient relationship. If the doctor treats you as a number, chances are you are not going to be happy with the results.
